Privacy Policy

coChurch is an app for churches. Members join a church, take part in groups, share prayer requests, read Scripture together and message one another. This policy explains what we collect, who can see it, and what you can do about it.
Who we are
coChurch is operated as coChurch. Contact coChurch with any question about this policy or your data.
What we collect
Information you give us
- Account details — your name, email address and, if you add one, a profile photo.
- Church and group membership — the church you join, the groups you belong to or lead, and your role.
- Content you create — prayer requests, encouragements, direct messages, Bible notes and highlights, reading progress, meeting details and attendance, and photos you upload.
- Household information — if you link a spouse or set up an account for your child, the relationships between those accounts.
Information collected automatically
- A push notification token, if you allow notifications, so we can send alerts to your device.
- Basic technical data needed to operate the service, such as timestamps on the content you create.
We do not use advertising trackers, and we do not sell your information to anyone.
Who can see your information
This is the part most people care about, so it is worth being precise.
- Other members of your church can find you by name in the member directory only if you turn on "Searchable by church members." This is off unless you enable it.
- Members of your groups can see your name, photo and the content you post in those groups.
- Prayer requests are visible to your church. If you post anonymously, your name is hidden from other members.
- Group leaders and church administrators can see membership, attendance and group content for the groups they oversee.
- Direct messages are private between you and the other person, with one exception described below.
When someone reports a conversation. If you or the person you are messaging reports your conversation, an administrator at your church can read that conversation in order to act on the report. They cannot browse messages that have not been reported. If you report an anonymous prayer request, the administrator reviewing it can see who wrote it, though you will not.
Blocking
You can block another member from their profile or from your conversation with them. Blocking is mutual — neither of you can message the other — and the person you block is not told. You can undo it in Settings.
Services we rely on
- Google Firebase stores your account, your content and your uploaded photos, and handles sign-in. Data is held on Google's servers.
- Expo delivers push notifications to your device.
- Groq powers the app's AI features. When you ask a Bible question, request an explanation of a passage, or use the AI meeting builder, the text or image you submit is sent to Groq to generate a response.
Each of these providers handles data under its own privacy terms.
Teenagers and children
coChurch is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly create accounts for them.
A parent or guardian can create a managed account for a teenager aged 13 to 17 using a family code. These accounts are deliberately limited: a teenager is never listed in the member directory, cannot send or receive direct messages, and cannot join groups without a parent's approval and their group leader's approval. A guardian can review and remove the account at any time.
Keeping and deleting your information
We keep your information for as long as your account exists. You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Delete Account, which removes your profile and sign-in credentials.
Content you shared with others may remain visible to them — a message you sent stays in the other person's conversation, for example, and a prayer request stays on the wall until it expires or is removed. Reports made about conduct are kept so a church can maintain a record of what was reviewed. You can ask us to remove remaining content — just get in touch.
Security
Access to data is restricted by server-side security rules, so members can reach only what their role permits. No system is perfectly secure, but we treat prayer requests, messages and family information as sensitive and design access around that.
Your choices
- Turn directory visibility on or off in Settings.
- Choose whether encouragements on your prayer requests are public.
- Turn off family reading sharing.
- Block or report another member.
- Turn off push notifications.
- Delete your account.
Changes to this policy
If we make a meaningful change we will update the date at the top of this page and, where the change is significant, tell you in the app.
